.
As time went by, Elvis began to get the feel of music by listening to a lot of blues players. They'd sit on they're door steps and strum they're guitars
and play harmonica all day long. Elvis would just sit there in amazement. Elvis' dream, although, was to be a movie star; not a musician. So you can
say that he did it backwards.
The family then moved to Memphis, Tennessee in 1948 for more opportunities and growth. Vernon started working a second job to
get ahead on things and to provide more for the family. Elvis was old enough to know right from wrong so Gladys got a job to bring in a another income.
Living in Memphis was even worse for Elvis than living in Tupelo. He couldn't make any friends. For Elvis was very different compared to everyone else.
He wore his hair long and slicked back like a truck driver while other boys had crew cuts. His clothes were nothing like what the other boys wore. Although
Elvis was well behaved and very polite, the way he talked, acted, and presented himself was unlike anything the other kids have seen. Elvis went to Humes
high school in Memphis but it wasn't what he expected. Elvis was getting into a lot of fights due to his clothes and long side-burns.
Come 1954, Elvis was almost through High School when he came across Sun Records. It was his mothers birthday and he wanted to record a song for her as
a birthday present. Elvis had seen this recording studio several times while walking down the street. He grabbed his first guitar that Vernon and Gladys
bought for him on his 11th birthday in 1946 and headed down to the studio. There he met Bill Black, a bass player; Scotty Moore, a guitar player and
the famous, well known owner of Sun Records, Sam Phillips. Sam Phillips is known for the introducion of Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy orbison, and a few of Johnny
Cash's songs. Along with many more. On that day in 1953, history was made, an idol was born and a king was crowned. Elvis recorded "That's Alright"
on that record and that became his first song of his music career. Not meaning to do anything with his musical talent, Phillips signed him onto a
full contract and led him on his way.
The management of Elvis was then taken over by a man named Bob Neal whom managed him until 1956. In 1956, Colonel Tom Parker became Elvis' personal manager.
By the end of the first year, between Elvis and the Colonel, they grossed over 22 million dollars in sales. Elvis' records were selling by the millions.
And so started all of the albums. Elvis' first full album was released January 27, 1956 labeled "Heartbreak Hotel".
